It started out as any old 600mhz Compaq Presario 5745 Desktop. This was my first really good computer. Considering my previous system was 75mhz which lagged when you loaded Internet Explorer. So, when I got my 600mhz Compaq, I was amazed. Not knowing how much Compaq sucked, I practically worshipped the machine in my previous years because of my ignorance. The big boy was and still is powered on an Intel Pentium III 600mhz chip with a specially made VIA motherboard. The system started out with a 11gb Quantum Bigfoot hard-drive, partitioned into a 9gb (c:\) and a 2gb (d:\) portions, it had 128mb of SDRAM (PC100) (which was the normal amount), an 8mb S3 Savage videocard, with an 8X DVD-Rom drive and 4x4x24 CDRW drive. Of course, it was a matter of time before I started screwing around with my machine, trying to get the maximum performance.

My first upgrade was installing my MSI 64mb GeForce 2 Pro from my 8mb S3 Savage card. It made a huge difference in my gaming, I have no regrets buying this card. Shortly after I installed two strips of 64mb of SDRAM (PC133), bringing my total amount of RAM to 256mb. The improvment in my speed of my computer was unbelievable, I swear the machine got 33% faster than it previously was. But that was not all, shortly after the RAM upgrade, I got hooked up on a great deal to get the Phillips 8x4x32 CDRW drive for FREE, in the same week I purchased an Internal 100mb Zip Drive, I installed both in the time period of two days. My last installment since then was getting a stick of 256mb SDRAM (PC133) for $25. A good deal at the time, so I took out one of the 64mb strips, installed the new 256mb strip and that brings my total memory to 448mb. And that is where I am left now.

Future plans are to install my new 40gb Seagate 5400RPM drive, another stick of 256mb SDRAM (PC133) and perhaps the GeForce 3 Xtasy card. I might just install that on my fathers computer though. And if I can land my hands on this 60gb Western Digital 5400RPM drive for $50 after rebate, I'll have 111gb of space. That's a pretty funky number, I won't need that much, but I could use it as a shared network drive..

I am running Windows 98, but plan on upgrading either to Windows 2000 Professional or XP Professional.
